The Heswall Society is the formal Consultee for all planning matters in the Gayton and Heswall Lower
Village Conservation Areas.

We also monitor the Council's web site for applications elsewhere in our
area which may be of concern. Our many members also make sure the Committee is aware of controversial proposals.

The Council has to make its planning decisions on the basis of the National Planning Policy framework and other Government Guidance and its own Planning policies and Supplementary Planning Documents.

The Society wishes to see the character of Heswall maintained and improved, and opposes, or seeks to modify, applications for development which would be harmful to the area. We aim to influence the outcomes by making reasoned arguments based on the planning policies and guidance notes which govern the Council's decision taking.

The Society was a consultee for the Council's Appraisal and Management Plans for the Gayton and Heswall Lower Village Conservation Areas. The Society is also a consultee for the Council's Core Strategy for Wirral and its Supplementary Planning Documents.   These consultations are our opportunity to influence the policies which will provide
the basis for future development in our area. The Society also made submissions to Government on its draft National Planning Policy Framework and its proposed relaxations of planning controls.

We have plans showing most Tree Preservation Orders so that individual cases of trees at risk can be checked. We believe that an active amenity Society in Heswall is crucial to ensuring the best possible protection for our local area.
